An all male drinking society at Cambridge University has had to cancel it’s annual jelly wrestling contest after it was labelled as being sexist and demeaning to women.

The event involved having two female students wrestling in a paddling pool filled with jelly.

But Student Nina de Paula Hanika started up a petition against the contest and she was pretty successful as she managed to get over 1,000 signatures.

And in light of the petition the society cancelled the contest saying that they understood the concerns.

Nina de Paula Hanika said: “the event was clearly sexist, misogynistic and completely inappropriate as entertainment for 2013″.

She added : “college members did excellent work every year to end the entrenched belief that this university is sexist and elitist, and it is exactly events like this that ruin their work

“I feel very strongly that women telling other women what to do is wrong, which is why the entire petition statement was directed towards the male organisers of the event.”

Both men and women signed the petition with one man saying: “Lad culture not only degrades women, it makes men look like knuckle-dragging morons.”

Sebastian Smith, from Somerset aged 22 landed his dream job and probably everyone else’s dream job as a water slide tester.

He got the Job after he won the competition that was set up by First choice holidays that was carried out at the 5 star berotel Makadi Saraya Splash Resort in Hurghada to find the right person for the job out of the 5 finalists.

The student from Leeds University had competition from more than 2,000 applicants for the six-month contract.

After winning the contract he will travel the world trying out its 20 splash world resorts and includes going to Faliraki, Turkey and Jamaica

All the expenses for the trip will be paid and he will also be paid £20,000 for his job.

Previous water slide tester Tommy Lynch said: “It can be tough when it’s chilly and you have to strip off, but otherwise it’s great.

“Getting to check out the flumes is by far the best bit. But there is a serious side and it carries a lot of responsibility.”

The students are given £10 and have a month to make a profit on the tenner that they are given and whatever they make on the £10 they get to keep.

Roland Glancy and Simon Barker the two inventors of Radfan have been left shocked by the success of their invention which sold out once the pairs invention was revealed on the radio.

The Radfan is said to cut your heating bills in half. The fan sits on top of your radiator and pushes the hot air across the room.

Hours later after having their product revealed on the radio the pair sold their first 500 fans and have recently had to employ two assistants to help with the high demand of producing this fantastic invention.

Roland, 31, from Cullercoats, North Tyneside, said: “We went on the radio and told people about it and the orders just started coming in. People from all over the country have been buying it.

“We manufacture everything in the UK except one part that comes from China. We assemble it in Byker and we’re just delighted that it’s been so well received. It’s difficult when you develop these products, and it takes so long to design that you never know how it will be received, so it’s all been very exciting.”

The fan also costs a mere £2 a year to run and can increase the room temperature by one or two degrees.

The product is currently sold out but I’m sure their will be more stock soon.

Sarmad Alladin aged 18 sadly died earlier this month for what was thought because he took some body building pills. The young student who attended Epsom University who was a fitness fanatic had been bragging about taking the pills hours before his death.

Just six hours after his death UCA had issued a warning on the student union website about the pills that had proposedly killed Sarmad that these were dangerous and anyone who was taking them or planning on taking them shouldn’t.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said : “Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, but at this stage the death is being treated as unexplained and there is no suggestion of any third party involvement.

“An inquest into the death has been opened and adjourned.”

Friends commented on his Facebook page some saying that you shouldn’t believe what you hear in the media.

Hannan Razvi wrote: “Our friend’s image is being exploited by the media. We are sure that he did not die due to overdose of DNP.

“Please do not believe whatever the media says. The media has no proof about how Sarmad Alladin died and the cause of death is still unknown. Please respect his departed soul.”

A new study has suggested that lowering the number of students that go on to higher education could cost the economy billions.

The million + group study has said a drop in 30,00 students going to higher education would cost the economy £6.6 billion.

The study has shown that a degree will bring graduates £115,000 over their working life and an extra £59,000 of they get a masters degree and there is a net gain of £94,000 for the treasury per graduate.

The study adds that the value of higher education is greater in tougher job markets which offers a greater return in protection in unemployment.

The Million+ study on UK universities calculates the value of a cohort of students who started higher education between 2011 – 2012 says that : ”the total value of these qualifications to those new entrants stands at approximately £36bn in today’s money terms”.

So with this site they can find pprenticeships, internships and graduate career opportunities and many other schemes for students.

www.studentgems.com

Student Gem is also a great site and has a very fun and colourful layout that is very appealing to students and it is its layout that makes this site for students stand out from others as they have made it very simple to find what your looking for by breaking it down into categories and making it visibly clear how to find what your looking for.

For many students debt its inevitable that you are going to be in debt. But their are ways of reducing how much you are in. It is ok to be in debt because ultimately it is going to lead you to a good job that will give you the funds to pay it back but some students go out of control and get into too much debts.

Don’t blow it all at once. Once you get your student loan you may be feeling like the man because you’ve got so much money but remember this money has got to last you and if you start spending it like your rich and can afford to blow it then your stupidness will come back to bite you and you’ll find yourself living of pot noodles.

Look for some part time work if you can this can help cut your debt down but you have to be willing to put the hours in along with your studies which may leave you less time to socialise with friends but you’ll have the last laugh when your friends have a massive debt over their head.

Get an NUS card because most places do student discount and this will only help you save money.

Students are looking to for a protest in London on November 21, this is due to the NUS getting worried about youth unemployment’s and the changes to the education scheme.

This comes at the point where unemployment for the youth is at all time low also working hard knowing pensions will be reduced nothing to look forward to. Students are hit hard by the government cuts and last year the peace full protest turned violent when some minority or student started to break windows and setting thing on fire.

To me I can understand the fury of the student the governments are not on their side. There should a line between helping the economy and the future of the youth of England. University 9 thousand a year is a joke in my opinion, there are lot of smart student and love studying put off by the price.
